If I could go back in time to just before Travis and I founded Johnson Jensen, here’s what I would let myself know: Starting your own firm is going to be very, very tough. It’s going to be tough especially throughout the first three years, and even more so because we work on a contingency fee basis. Income will be unpredictable; payroll and rent will be, at times, doubtful. The only way you’ll be able to withstand this kind of pressure is if you actually love what you do and care about your clients.
Thankfully, as of this month, we’ve made it through those first three years, which is by itself an herculean accomplishment. Along the way, Travis and I have each achieved individual victories in cases that we’re personally proud of. We’ve developed a brand that accurately captures our values as attorneys and represents our beliefs about personal injury law. We’ve attracted an exceptionally talented and capable staff, and we’ve been recognized for our teamwork.
As we grow, we’ve also recently started collecting reviews to help get the word out about Johnson Jensen, and it’s these reviews, I think, that really show what we’ve accomplished in three years. When you’re deep in the trenches of starting a business, it can be hard to remember what you went down there for in the first place. It can be easy to forget the dream you had twenty years ago, the one about someday starting your own firm. But reading these reviews has reminded me that Johnson Jensen has had a real and profound impact on people’s lives these past three years. My new dream is that we’ll continue to do so for many more.
